
Getting the Heat Right in Bathroom Infrared Heaters
Most bathroom heat lamps use short-wave infrared. It’s great because it gives you that instant hit of warmth the second you flip the switch. But there’s a catch: you have to balance how much heat you’re pumping out with how much light is hitting your eyes. This is a big deal if you’ve got babies in the house or just people who are sensitive to bright lights. To fix this, we play around with how the quartz element actually behaves.
Saving Your Eyes from the Glare
Standard halogen lamps are a bit too much. They throw out a wide range of light, including UV and visible light that can feel like a spotlight in your face. Nobody wants that while they’re trying to relax in a bath. So, we use special coatings on the quartz glass or tweak the filament temperature. By pushing the energy further into the infrared range and blocking out that harsh blue light, we get the heat without the blinding glare. It makes the light feel soft. Easy on the eyes.
Speed and Power
We designed these lamps to react fast. Really fast. Because we use a quartz envelope, the heat doesn’t waste time warming up the air in the room first. It goes straight to your skin. It’s that cozy feeling that dries your towels and warms you up instantly. Since these usually go into ceiling fixtures, we keep them small. But because they pack so much punch in a tiny space, the housing has to be tough. We make sure it can handle the heat so you don’t have to worry about plastic parts melting.
The Trade-offs
Here’s the thing: when you filter the light to protect your eyes, you lose a little bit of that “brightness.” The lamp isn’t as luminous, but it’s way safer. It’s a trade we’re happy to make. If you’re installing these, just make sure your voltage regulators are steady. If the voltage spikes, it can push the filament out of its sweet spot and start throwing out that harsh light again. Also, stick with high-temperature wiring. These lamps get hot, and you want the wiring to handle the soak without any issues.
