Let’s be honest: those old-school bathroom heat lamps are kind of a nightmare. They’re basically just basic bulbs that aren’t built for the steam. You leave the shower running, the room gets foggy, and all that moisture creeps into the electrics. Before you know it, the contacts are corroded and the bulb just… pops. That’s why we’ve moved toward IP44-rated infrared systems. It just makes more sense. The deal with IP44 (and why it matters) If you see “IP44” on a box, it’s basically a promise that the unit can handle a splash of water from any direction without freaking out. We use sealed gaskets and tucked-away wiring ports to keep steam and droplets away from the live parts. Without that protection, condensation builds up right on the heating element. Then, the second you flip the switch, that cold water hits the hot glass. It’s a recipe for a cracked bulb or a blown fuse. Not a great way to start your morning. Heating you, not the air Here is the real magic: infrared is different. Most heaters try to warm up all the air in the room. That takes forever. Infrared works more like the sun. It sends out waves of heat that hit your skin and warm you up instantly. You don’t have to stand around shivering while the room slowly catches up. You feel it the moment you turn it on. It’s fast. Really fast. A few things to keep in mind You can usually wire these into your existing bathroom circuits, but there’s a catch. These units pull a decent amount of power. If you put too many of them on one line, you’re probably going to trip your breaker. If you’re going for a high-output setup, just run a dedicated line. Your electrician will thank you. One last thing: while these are great with steam, they aren’t submarines. If you blast them directly with a high-pressure shower head every single day, those seals will eventually wear down. To keep them running for years, just mount them away from the direct spray. Keep them dry-ish, and they’ll keep you warm. Simple as that.
