
Why We Put Our Bathroom Heaters Through Hell
We make infrared heating lamps for two very specific, very messy places: bathrooms and chicken coops. If you’ve ever spent time in either, you know they’re brutal. You’ve got thick steam, constant humidity, and temperatures that swing wildly from freezing to scorching. In those conditions, a tiny gap in a seal or a microscopic crack in a quartz tube isn’t just a flaw—it’s a death sentence for the lamp. It’ll burn out in weeks.
The “Steam Room” Test
Here’s the thing: moisture and high-voltage electricity don’t get along. At all. To make sure our lamps actually last, we don’t just hope for the best. We throw them into a chamber with 95% humidity and cycle the heat over and over. It’s basically a torture test. We’re forcing moisture into every single nook and cranny of the housing to see where it breaks. We’re hunting for two things: corrosion and electrical leaks. If a seal isn’t perfect, water hits the terminals. Then you get short circuits. We don’t guess if a seal is “good enough”—we push it until it fails so we know exactly where the limit is.
The Battle of Glass and Metal
To get the heat you need, we use quartz glass and halogen filaments. Quartz is great for heat, but it’s brittle. The real headache is the spot where the metal wires meet the glass. That’s the weak point. To fix this, we use a special potting compound to bridge the gap. But there’s a catch. Metal and glass expand and shrink at different rates when they heat up. If the compound doesn’t move exactly like the glass does, the seal just pops. That’s why those aging tests are so important. We need to know that bond holds tight even when the lamp is screaming hot one minute and cold the next.
Making it Work in Your Home
When you install one of these in your ceiling or your coop, you want it to just work. You shouldn’t have to climb a ladder every six months to replace a dead bulb. Because our lamps pass these tests, they keep their heat and stay safe even after years of steaming showers. Just a heads-up, though: we can make the lamp waterproof, but we can’t fix your house wiring. Make sure your external wiring is rated for wet locations. Otherwise, the lamp will be fine, but your junction box will be the problem.
